SafeHaven Humane Society's Greystoke Medical Fund
SafeHaven Humane Society, with the help of two generous donors established the Greystoke Medical Fund. This fund helps provide medical services to animals that need above and beyond just routine medical care. Without this fund it would be very difficult to afford the extensive medical care some animals need to be healthy and adoptable. Please make your donation today to the Greystoke Medical Fund and help change a life.
Animals needing your financial help...
3/12/10 PK was surrendered to SafeHaven and while undergoing her spay surgery the veterinarian found necrotic tissue on her bladder. Emergency surgery had to be done to save PK's life and the tissue was tested. It wasn't cancer and we were so grateful so PK spent some time recovering and is now in foster care.
9/28/09 Ginger was surrenedered by her owners when they could no longer care for her. Now she is in need of knee surgery (TPLO) or a brace so she can walk without pain. Ginger is in foster care now.
10/1/09 Poppi was transferred from another shelter where he was a stray. Upon arriving despite being very thin Poppi refused to eat. A feeding tube has been inserted to help him and he has spent several days in intensive care at a local veterinary hospital. Poppi is now eating on his own and is learning to be a dog again. He is now recovering in foster care and is available for adoption.
Animals who have been helped by your donations...
(Boomer Before) Boomer was transferred to SafeHaven from another shelter and we immediately noticed his back legs were bowed.. It turned out Boomer had luxated patellas on both back legs. Boomer would have been a candidate for surgery to repair them but it was also determined Boomer was in the beginning stages of renal failure.
With daily medications, fluids, and a special diet cooked by his foster mom we believe Boomer will defy all odds and continue to thrive. To donate directly to Boomers care click on the paypal link to the right. (Boomer 3 months later) Boomer lost his battle and he will be missed by many. He taught us how important it is not to give up and he blossomed in foster care.
Denali- is a young German Shepherd X Malmute cross. Denali was transferred from another shelter in southern Oregon. Soon after arriving Denali went off food and water and became very ill. He had to be hospitalized for over 2 weeks and given IV fluids as well as being hand fed. Denali is doing wonderfully now and is appetite is completely back. We know he was fighting some sort of infection and we are so glad he is ok now. Denali's care cost over $600. If you would like to donate to Denali please send your tax deductible donation to: SafeHaven 33071 Hwy 34 Albany, OR 97321 or by clicking on the paypal button to the right. Denali has been adopted!
On Friday October 10th SafeHaven Humane Society assisted the Linn County Sheriffs office in the seizure of 31 small breed dogs. At the time the dogs were suffering from intestinal parasites, ear mites, urine scald, matting, and lack of socialization. All the dogs including 3 pregnant mothers were placed immediately into foster care as SafeHaven awaited the outcome of the court case. SafeHaven with the assistance of the Animal Legal Defense Fund placed a lien on the dogs to encourage the owner to give up all rights to the dogs so they could be adopted out and placed in forever homes. In November the former owner did release interest in the dogs and SafeHaven was able to begin placing them in homes. The majority of all the dogs were adopted by their foster families. Nine puppies were born in foster care to the 3 mothers and all of them have been adopted except for one who’s name is Bolt. The puppy is 8 weeks old and has PDA which is a Congenital Heart Defect. The puppy was seen by Dr. Fletcher of Albany Animal Hospital who referred it to OSU Small Animal Hospital. The puppy is in need of immediate surgery with a cost estimate of at least $2,300. The more time Bolt stays in ICU after the surgery, the more costly the surgery will be. Prognosis is very good if the
surgery is done, but without the surgery the puppy will likely only live to be a year at most. Please donate to Bolt today. Any additional funds we receive will go into the Greystoke Fund to help similar animals in need. Thank you for your support. Bolt has received his surgery and it went very well! He has a clean bill of health now and has been adopted by his loving foster family.
Olivia -was a stray no one came to claim. She is only a little over a year old. But when Olivia arrived we noticed she had discomfort in her hind end. X-rays determined Olivia needed TPLO surgery on both back legs to be pain free. The surgery although discounted is still $2,100. Olivia's surgery is scheduled for Friday January 16th, so Olivia can begin her recovery in foster care and be able to do the things young dogs enjoy, like run and play. Donate directly to Olivia's surgery online by using paypal below. Olivia has been adopted.
Josh- has Osteosarcoma or bone cancer. He had the affected leg amputated and has been doing quite well. The surgery cost over $600 but Josh is now living out his days in foster care and has far exceeded everyone's expectations.. Thank you for your help! Josh lost his battle with cancer and we are all very sad to lose him.

Angel– is a very special cat and lucky to be alive. He is loving and affectionate despite the mistreatment he has suffered in the past.
He was rescued by a local woman who learned Angel had been living with a broken leg that was very painful. She brought him to us and we immediately took him to a veterinarian. It was determined the leg was too far gone to repair and needed to be removed. So now Angel is on the mend and waiting for a forever home that will treat him like the great cat he is. ANGEL HAS BEEN ADOPTED!
Kali was found by a good samaritan after she appeared to have been hit by a car. She was taken to a local veterinarian who found she had a broken back leg. It was decided the best course of action was to amputate the leg so Kali would no longer be in pain. She recovered very quickly from the srugery and is now learning to walk on 3 legs and is waiting for her forever home. To donate directly to Kali please see the column to the right. KALI HAS BEEN ADOPTED
Hope was found wandering outside of town with a horrific skin condition. Almost half her body was rubbed raw and bleeding. When we first saw her we thought she had been burned. We named her Hope because all we could think of while transporting her to the veterinarian is, "we hope we can help her" and we could! Hope has shown tremendous improvement under a veterinarians care. Her skin is already healing and turning a healthy shade of pink. She has gained 3 pounds in less than a week and is happy and wiggly all over when you visit her. To donate directly to help with Hope's veterinary bills please see the column to the right. HOPE HAS BEEN ADOPTED
